The best job I ever had was being the art director for a screen printing company for 15 years. I love doing tee shirt graphics, and enjoyed every aspect of that job. When Scout and Zoe’s contacted me about designing a tee shirt for Year of the Dog, I jumped at the chance. Fortunately, The owner of Scout and Zoe’s basically gave me free reign on the graphic which is always a nice gift from a client. Because this was my first time doing any work for the company, the first thing I did was peruse her website.
Scout and Zoe’s is basically all about dogs. Cindy Dunston Quirk is a dog lover and started her company when she couldn’t find dog chews that were safe for her German shepherd, Zoe. Zoe had allergies and could not eat any bovine products. Cindy’s website has an extensive offering of premium, USDA grade A quality, human-grade raw ingredients for all of their treats. Every single item is USA sourced and produced in a USDA inspected facility. And along with the treats, Cindy also has human products!
Excited about it being the Year of the Dog, Cindy wanted a cute tee shirt for her customers and friends. Using a photo of her dog, Scout, some year of the dog symbols and the colors of the Scout and Zoe’s logo, I developed several roughs for Cindy to look over. She loved them and with some fine-tuning we finalized the tee with this design which included the left chest, a full back, and a simple back tag. After completing the tee design, I also designed some small buttons with the Year of the Dog for giveaways.
